Area Agencies, Organizations Honored for Outstanding Service to Seniors

Eleven area agencies and organizations have been recognized for their outstanding service to seniors in Howard and Anne Arundel counties. They were presented with Presidential Service Awards during a luncheon ceremony held at the Acqua Restaurant at the Hilton Baltimore BWI Airport.
The fourth annual event was sponsored by the local Home Instead Senior Care office. This year's award winners include the following.
- Partners in Care. Since 1993 this community nonprofit, through a volunteer time exchange program, has worked to empower older adults to remain independent at home. With 2,800 members at four sites across Maryland, the organization offers transportation, home repairs, emergency support and much more.
- Neighbor Ride in Howard County. Launched in 2004, Neighbor Ride is a volunteer-based transportation service for older members of Howard County. They provide reasonably priced, reliable supplemental transportation services that utilize community volunteers and resources.
- Sunrise Severna Park in Anne Arundel County. Part of the nationwide group of Sunrise communities, Sunrise Severna Park offers exceptional independent and assisted living options, as well as a Reminiscence Program for those with memory impairment.
- Heartlands Severna Park in Anne Arundel County. A Five Star Senior Living community, Heartlands Assisted Living at Severna Park has been providing assisted living, and dementia and Alzheimer's care, to the community for 11 years.
- Morningside House Ellicott City in Howard County. The Morningside group of communities has been serving seniors and their families in the Maryland and Washington, D.C., areas since 1992.
- Sunrise Columbia in Howard County. Sunrise Columbia is located in a quiet, residential neighborhood and is known for providing a home-like environment, and for participating in community-based initiatives. Assisted living and reminiscence care are offered at this location.
- Genesis Spa Creek Center in Anne Arundel County. Spa Creek's health care units provide skilled nursing, medical and rehabilitative care for patients and residents. They are a 2009 AHCA/NCAL Step II Quality Award Winner.
- St. Elizabeth Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Serving Howard and West Baltimore counties. Part of the Jenkins Senior Care Community of Catholic Charities, this nursing center provides a comprehensive array of individualized rehabilitation and nursing services.
- Gentiva Health Services, serving Anne Arundel and Howard counties. The Pasadena office offers a range of skilled services delivered to the patient's home, including nursing care as well as physical, occupational and speech therapies.
- Bayada Nurses, Serving Anne Arundel and Howard counties. Founded in 1975, Bayada Nurses provides nursing, rehabilitative, therapeutic and personal home health care services to seniors in the comfort of their own homes from the Glen Burnie office.
- Health and Mobility, Serving Anne Arundel and Howard counties. Health and Mobility is a durable medical equipment provider that services Maryland and Washington, D.C.
