Salute to Economic Development & The Cyber Community

Mobility is not just an important part of economic growth, it is the most essential component of economic growth, and is every bit as important as good soil is to good crop growth.

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) is expanding partnerships with industry organizations, business groups, government agencies and high schools to create pipelines of workers to meet the needs of this region’s economy.

Financial institutions and investors from around the country this past year have identified Howard County as a prime location for growth in the cybersecurity market, investing millions of dollars in funding two of the region’s largest cybersecurity firms.

Funding can be a challenge for small businesses, but thanks to the Howard County Economic Development Authority’s (HCEDA) Catalyst Loan Fund (CLF), there are options available to help them get off of the ground and grow.

Maryland may not have much in the actual acreage department, but it surely makes up for its lack of size in its impact. We should start calling Maryland “The Little State That Can.”

In some ways, economic development can be complicated stuff.

Continuing its long history of supporting community organizations working to improve health and wellness in Howard County, The Horizon Foundation awarded almost $1.2 million in grants in 2015.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) and Americans for the Arts, arts organizations, and the creative people they employ, stimulate innovation, strengthen our nation’s competitiveness in the global marketplace and play an important role in building and sustaining economic vibrancy.

2015 has come to a close, and 2016 is here. What does that mean for Maryland’s workforce?

After only a few weeks on the job, the energy, vibrancy and innovation that surrounds everything cyber in Maryland has been remarkably apparent. I have met with startups, small companies and large, and everything in between.
