As the newly-elected representative of District 4 on the Anne Arundel County Council, I am excited about the economic opportunities in our area. With continuing job and operational growth at Fort Meade and NSA, there are many opportunities to improve our local economy.

During the next few years, I will be working with other elected officials and stakeholders on several planned projects in our area. One of the largest projects is the Odenton Town Center, which includes plans for office space and mixed-use development.

With the economic growth, there are also some challenges that need to be addressed, including infrastructure, including roads and schools, and public safety… . This is crucial for not only improving our local economy, but also to the quality of life for our residents. We will also work to coordinate efforts to improve public transportation in our area. Improvements to pedestrian access, walkways, bike trails and public transportation are necessary.

Last, but not least, there will be a continued push to support green and smart growth initiatives in Anne Arundel County. Prior to my tenure on the council, a five-year lease for the former United States Naval Academy Dairy Farm site was approved; however, we are in need of more parks and designated open space areas.

I am excited about the opportunity that I have been given to lead and serve. It looks like 2015 will be a great and exciting year with continued opportunities in Anne Arundel County.
