St. Mary of the Mills School, of Laurel, has been internationally recognized as a newly certified science, technology, engineering, and mathematics school by Cognia Accreditation Services. It recently became the first school in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington to become STEM Certified.

This certification recognizes the school’s commitment to a high-quality education that focuses on equity and inclusion by building a strong STEM community, learning culture, experiences and program outcomes.

During this process St. Mary was recognized for its commitment to fostering a creative learning environment where students are active owners of their education, leading high performance groups, such as the Rube Goldberg Team, to place in the top 10 in global competition and second place in the People’s Choice category, which was also on a worldwide scale.

St. Mary will be unveiling its status as a Cognia STEM Certified School at a ceremony Monday, Aug. 29, from 12-12:30 p.m.
