Ulman, Senker Join Olney Theatre Board

Olney Theatre Center has announced that the Ken Ulman, former Howard County executive, and T.J. Senker have joined the organization’s board of directors. Ulman is the president of Margrave Strategies; Senker is president of MedStar Montgomery Medical Center.

Kromm Named VP at HCGH

Howard County General Hospital (HCGH) recently appointed Elizabeth Edsall Kromm as vice president of population health and advancement. Edsall Kromm is responsible for population health management, strategic planning, community relations and development, and also serves as president of the Howard Hospital Foundation.

City of Annapolis Hires Harbormaster

The City of Annapolis has named a new harbormaster, police Lt. Beth Mauk. Mauk’s professional experience includes numerous positions with the Maryland Natural Resources Police Department from October 1998 through March of 2016.

Monarch Academy Anne Arundel Names DeVito Board Chair

Monarch Academy Anne Arundel County — which includes Monarch Academy Merritt Campus, a public charter school in Glen Burnie, and Monarch Global Academy, a public contract school in Laurel — named Eric DeVito chair of the board of directors. DeVito is a principal with law firm Stone, Mattheis, Xenopoulos & Brew.

Rec & Parks Staffer Recognized for Leadership

Laura Wetherald, bureau chief of recreation for the Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks, was elected into the American Academy for Park & Recreation Administration as a fellow. She was formally inducted during the National Recreation & Parks Association conference in St. Louis in early October.

Providence Center Announces Adams-Gilchrist

Providence Center, of Glen Burnie, has selected Karen Adams-Gilchrist as its new CEO and president. She most recently served as chief program officer for Easter Seals UCP North Carolina and Virginia.

Kittleman Appoints New Director for Department of Community Resources

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman has named Steven Bullock as the director of the Department of Community Resources and Services. Since 2005, Bullock has worked in the Multnomah County, Oregon, Emergency Management Department, developing a culturally competent emergency communication plan for the most vulnerable populations and the non-majority English-speaking populations.

Howard Employee Wins LGIT Life Saver’s Award

Josh Fisher, a parks maintenance worker with the Howard County Department of Recreation & Parks’ Heritage Division, has won the Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT) Life Saver’s Award. Last summer, Fisher and his partner, Jeff Murray, witnessed a vehicle accident at the corner of Route 40 and Marriottsville Road, where they quickly assisted a burn victim who had broken his arm.

New President Named at Chaney Enterprises

Chaney Enterprises has announced the promotion of Francis (Hall) Chaney, III, to president. Previously executive vice president, he represents the third generation to lead the company founded in 1962 by his grandfather, Eugene “Babe” Chaney, and later led by his father, Francis Chaney, II, who currently serves as chairman of the board.

MCC Adds Reinhardt

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce (MCC) has welcomed Richard Reinhardt, II, as director of government affairs. He is working with the MCC’s new vice president of government affairs, Lawrence Richardson, Jr., on its advocacy initiatives. Reinhardt previously served as director of government and community relations for Towson University.

Arundel DPW Deputy Director Named Engineer of the Year

Greg Africa, the deputy director of the Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works’ (DPW) Bureau of Highways, has been named the 2016 County Engineer of the Year by the County Engineers Association of Maryland. Africa is responsible for all operation and maintenance activities associated with the 6,715 roads within the county’s road network infrastructure.

Hogan Appoints Bays Armstrong

Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed financial planner Katherine Bays Armstrong, of Howard County, to serve as the newest board member of the Maryland Transportation Authority. A Certified Financial Planner of Heritage Financial Consultants, Armstrong previously served as a vice president for Mercantile-Safe Deposit & Trust Co. (now PNC).

Scornaienchi Receives TDR’s Innovator of the Year Award

Joan Webb Scornaienchi, executive director with HC DrugFree, was recently named among the Innovators of the Year by The Daily Record (TDR). She was recognized for HC DrugFree’s opioid educational campaign which is in four languages: English, Spanish, Korean and Arabic.

Rodriguez Hired by City of Annapolis

Roxana Rodriguez has been hired as Hispanic community services specialist by the City of Annapolis. She is the owner of Caliente Grill, in Annapolis, and will coordinate communications between groups and local government to address and meet the needs of the community.

Revere Adds Pelletier

Revere Bank recently added Andrea Pelletier as senior vice president, commercial banking, for its Howard County team. Previously, she worked for a national bank as senior vice president, senior relationship manager, where she managed a multimillion-dollar portfolio of commercial banking clients.

Staff Shifts at the Partnership

The BWI Business Partnership has reorganized several staff positions. They include naming Ben Cohen, formerly the assistant director, transportation and workforce, as assistant director of transportation and community programs; and naming Nancy Huggins, formerly the assistant director, grants and transportation programs, as assistant director, membership and grants.

Local New Artist to Launch Original Collection

Lydia Hicks, a local artist, will launch her “Life’s Journey Collection” and other fine art at Ranazul Restaurant, in Fulton, on Sunday, Nov. 6. Hicks started painting recently and says it’s a “hidden talent that’s been revealed to me.”

After a third layoff in her professional career, she worked with a talent strategist and began painting on canvas. Her collection will be on display until Nov. 20. S&N Hires Brant for Subsidiaries

S&N Communications has hired Michael Brant, a former project manager for Bechtel Infrastructure & Power Corp., as president for subsidiary companies SCE and Tower16. McCarthy Joins Revere Bank

Martin McCarthy has joined Revere Bank as senior vice president, commercial banking. Before joining Revere, he worked for a large regional bank as vice president; the Lehigh University grad is currently attending the University of Pennsylvania’s ABA Stonier Graduate School of Banking.
