Horizon Announces New Trustee, Board Officers
The Columbia-based Horizon Foundation has announced the appointment of a new trustee and four officers to lead its board. They are Henry Posko, chair, Humanim; Gregory Olaniran, vice chair, Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp; Robin Steele, secretary, Bridges Consulting; Janet Currie, treasurer, Bank of America; and Jeffrey Rivest, new trustee, former CEO of University of Maryland Medical Center.
Champion Adds Agents
Champion Realty has added agents Wesley Johnson and Gary Siegel in the Crofton office, and Maynold Moreno in Annapolis. Johnson has more than 10 years of experience in real estate and construction in the government sector; Siegel, is a personal trainer and former software developer; and Moreno transitioned to real estate after a career in marketing and retail.
Arundel Federal Announces Promotions
The Arundel Federal Savings Bank Board of Directors has authorized three officer promotions: Charles Wagner was appointed vice president of residential lending, and Tracy McQuoid and Melissa Schmidt-Fruits were appointed assistant secretary. Wagner has spent the last year working with McQuoid to initiate new programs, while Schmidt-Fruits has focused on critical regulatory compliance mandates and is the bank secrecy act officer.
Two at HCC Receive Appointments
Kate Hetherington, president of Howard Community College (HCC), has been appointed to the board of directors of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). She was appointed president of HCC in 2007. In addition, Jean Svacina has been appointed vice president of academic affairs at the college, where she most recently served as interim vice president of academic affairs from last June until January.
Grassroots Names Holmes
Ayesha Holmes has replaced the retired Andrea Ingram as the new Grassroots executive director. Holmes is the founding partner of STRATIGIX Consulting, of Columbia, served on Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman’s transition team and took Maryland Choices, working with children with special needs and their families, from one county to a statewide program in eight years.
Ulman Joins WMS Partners
WMS Partners, a Baltimore-based, fee-only wealth adviser, has announced that Louis Jay Ulman has joined the firm as a partner and senior consultant. Ulman will lead WMS Partners’ expansion to Howard and Montgomery counties, and Washington, D.C., with the Howard office opening projected in the coming months.
Salazar Appointed to UMMS Board
Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed attorney Tony Salazar to the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) Board of Directors. He will be serving on the Audit and Compliance Committee, as well as the Minority Business Enterprise Committee.
Garner Cited at FASTSIGNS
Sara Garner, manager of the FASTSIGNS location in Annapolis, received the Manager of the Year Recognition at the company’s recent convention, which was held in Phoenix, Ariz. Garner has been with the company since June 2014.
Shock Joins DOC
Kris Valerio Shock has joined the Maryland Department of Commerce (DOC) as senior director of the Office of Strategic Industries and Entrepreneurship. Prior to joining the DOC, she was a senior account director at Exit10, a marketing and advertising agency in Baltimore; from 2008 to 2015, she was executive director of the Chesapeake Regional Tech Council. Under her leadership, its membership grew from 200 to more than 300 companies, grant funding increased more than 200% and total revenue doubled.
Weiner Publishes The NRG Advantage
Mike Weiner, CEO of the Network Referral Group (NRG), has written his first book, The NRG Advantage. The book summarizes his 17-year journey of working “with thousands of business owners and selling professionals.” A book signing is slated for Howard County in March.
CFHoCo Names Lestner VP
The Community Foundation of Howard County (CFHoCo) has named Allyson Lestner vice president and director of development. Lestner brings to the position nearly 10 years of experience in relationship building, fundraising, stewardship and networking; previously, Lestner was assistant vice president for leadership giving for The Associated: Jewish Community Federation of Baltimore, where she managed $22 million of the organization’s $30 million annual giving campaign.
Shepherd Elected to MakingChange Board
Richard Shepherd, Jr., has been elected to the MakingChange board of directors. Shepherd is president of Sales & Business Strategies, a Columbia business which provides consulting services to chief executives and senior management of small to medium-sized corporations.
BGE Taps Eaves
Megan Eaves has been named external affairs manager for BGE supporting Carroll, Frederick, Howard, Prince George’s and Montgomery counties. She previously served as BGE’s vegetation management project manager, and has experience in customer relations and conflict resolution.
New VP Joins MacKenzie Capital
MacKenzie Capital has announced that William Goetschius II has joined the firm as vice president. He brings nearly 10 years of combined capital advisory and real estate investment experience to the firm.
Johnson Joins UHY LLP
Nancy Johnson has joined the UHY LLP Columbia office as a principal in the firm’s audit and assurance practice. She brings more than 27 years of experience in nonprofit assurance to the position, where she will provide services to nonprofit organizations and qualified employee benefit plans.
Haines New at Whiteford
Whiteford Taylor & Preston has announced that Maryland health care attorney Sigrid Haines has joined the firm as a partner in its Columbia and Baltimore offices. She is experienced representing hospitals, medical and health-related foundations, health care systems, nursing homes, home health agencies, physicians and pharmacies.
Scornaienchi Joins ADAAB Board
Joan Webb Scornaienchi, executive director of HC DrugFree, was recently elected to the board of the Howard County Alcohol & Drug Abuse Advisory Board (ADAAB). The 27-person board promotes collaboration among various entities to reduce behavioral health issues.
