Horizon Hires New Communications Director

The Horizon Foundation, of Columbia, has hired Olivia Doherty as the organization’s director of communications. Doherty most recently served as a senior director of communications at The Hatcher Group, a Maryland-based firm specializing in public relations for nonprofit organizations.

CCMIT Expands Its Outreach Client Support

The Conference Center at the Maritime Institute (CCMIT), of Linthicum, has appointed Jill Porter as assistant director of sales. She had previously been manager of sales for CCMIT. In her new role, Porter will support Brian Senft, director of sales, in the execution of CCMIT’s marketing strategy. She also will continue to assist maritime and other trade unions with their training and conference needs, and will add sports marketing to her portfolio.

CCMIT also hired Bethe Brekke as sales manager for religious and educational groups, Lorraine Cornish as sales manager for corporate and social organizations, and Taffy Rice as sales telemarketing associate.

Four Promoted at KatzAbosch

Columbia-based KatzAbosch has announced the promotions of four of its employees. They include Kristin Bailey, who joined the firm in 2003, to principal; Michael Gentry, co-chair of the firm’s Construction Group, to director; and Kristin Hucht, a senior member of the firm’s Accounting and Auditing Committee, and Ryan Sturm, a member of the firm’s Tax Department, to shareholders.

Hodge Named VP of MarComm at Miller’s Grant

Karen Hodge has been named vice president of marketing and communication for Carroll Lutheran Village and The Lutheran Village at Miller’s Grant. She has more than 30 years of experience in marketing and sales of retirement housing in the nonprofit and for-profit sectors.

Schuh Names Aftung Emergency Management Director

Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh named Kevin Aftung as Anne Arundel County emergency management director, a new cabinet level appointment. Aftung will oversee the day-to-day operations of the county’s Emergency Operations Center, which helps coordinate responses to weather-related emergencies and other disasters.
