Hogan Names Former Howard Police Chief as New Sheriff

Gov. Larry Hogan recently appointed Bill McMahon as Howard County sheriff. McMahon previously served Howard County as chief of police from 2006 to 2014. He most recently served as acting executive director of the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commissions, and as director of the Commissions’ Leadership Development Institute.

AAEDC Welcomes Three New Members to Board

Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp. (AAEDC) CEO Julie Mussog has appointed three new directors to the organization’s board. They include José Baluda of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems, Kevin Carter of Severn Savings Bank and Joel Rozner of the Rifkin Weiner Livingston, an Annapolis-based law firm. Baluda, an Air Force veteran, has a decade of experience at Northrop Grumman; Carter serves a dual role as a vice president for Severn; and Rozner is a partner with the Rifkin firm, and chair of its Legislative and Government Relations Group.

HCAC Welcomes Three to Board

The Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) has added three community leaders to its board of directors. They are Robert Altieri, Jordana Guzman and Dami Soh. Altieri serves as executive vice president, among other roles, at Howard Bank; Guzman recently join the Estate Planning, Elder Law and Probate and Trust Administration practice groups at the law firm of Davis, Agnor, Rapaport & Skalny; and Soh has been giving private cello lessons for more than 10 years and performs regularly with the Columbia Orchestra.

MBIA Presents Leadership Awards

The Maryland Building Industry Association (MBIA) recently recognized individual leaders at its Award of Excellence Awards, which were held at The Hotel at Arundel Preserve. Among the winners were Tom Marshall, former vice president/area partner of Elm Street Development, who was posthumously named the 2016 Stewart J. Greenebaum Builder of the Year award winner; and Earl Armiger, founder and CEO of Orchard Development, who was chosen to receive the 2016 Milton E. Kettler Lifetime Achievement Award.

Principle Real Estate Consultants Names Chicorelli

Principle Real Estate Consultants, of Ellicott City, has added Michael Chicorelli as partner. Chicorelli joins Principle, which was founded in March 2015, with more than10 years of experience in the appraisal industry.

Scully Named to Inner Arbor Trust Board

Howard Bank has announced that CEO Mary Ann Scully has been named to the Inner Arbor Trust’s board of directors. In addition, the bank will donate $50,000 during the next 10 years to the trust.

Hogan Announces Judicial Appointment

Gov. Larry Hogan has announced the appointments of Mark Crooks to the Circuit Court for Anne Arundel County. Crooks has served as an assistant United States Attorney in Maryland for more than five years.

HFAM Names Immel

The Health Facilities Association of Maryland (HFAM) has promoted Tracy Immel to director of policy and government relations. Immel will lead long-term care regulatory and reimbursement analysis at state and federal levels, track legislation and lobby on behalf of long-term care facilities in Maryland.

United Way Names Baker

United Way of Central Maryland has announced Franklyn Baker as the organization’s new president and CEO. Baker comes to the organization after having served as principal deputy and COO for Greenpeace USA, a $45 million nonprofit with 600 staff.

Collins Joins MCC

The Maryland Chamber of Commerce (MCC) has hired Christine Collins as its senior director of strategic communication. Collins joins the MCC after having served as senior communications manager at Towson University since April 2013.

Chesapeake Conservancy Hires Encore Fellow

Michael Gee has joined the Chesapeake Conservancy as an encore fellow. Gee will work with the organization and the National Park Service Chesapeake Bay Office to jointly explore and develop strategic plans for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.

Adkins Joins COPT

Corporate Office Properties Trust (COPT) has appointed of Paul Adkins as executive vice president and COO. Adkins spent prior five years as a principal at The JBG Companies, a real estate investment and management firm based in Chevy Chase.

MLA Adds Nicholas

Maryland Land Advisors (MLA) has announced that Sara Nicolas has joined the firm as a land broker. She has been a Maryland licensed real estate professional for 14 years and previously served as senior program management analyst to the United States Navy.

Foose Garners Award

Howard County Public Schools Superintendent Renee Foose has received the 2016 National Network for Early Language Learners Award for Outstanding Support of Early Language Learning. It was presented at the annual convention of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, in Boston.

Callahan Joins Oasis Mental Health

Christy Callahan is a new board certified psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner at Oasis: The Center for Mental Health, in Annapolis. She also works in the same capacity in the Psychiatric Emergency Department at Sinai Hospital, in Baltimore.
